👋Welcome LBH Herd

Welcome to the LBH podcast where I discuss all things women's health (good, bad, and especially taboo!).

This podcast was born out of my own personal health journey of not being believed or listened to by providers, specifically my OBGYN, when it came to concerns about my health. It took me five years and five different OBGYNs until I found one who finally listened and actually gave me a solution that worked: pelvic floor therapy.

The shift from being medically gaslit and absolutely dreading my annual exam to feeling confident and informed about my own body was life-changing. And I thought, why should any of us have to fight this hard just to be heard? Why should this empowerment be so rare when it should be our everyday reality? That's when Let's Be Heard (LBH) was born.

Here, I want everyone to feel comfortable, welcome, and free to learn about all things women's health. Most importantly, I want you to feel empowered and fully informed about your own body. I go where we all want to go but haven't because of stigma, shame, or fear. All those questions you've Googled at 2am but were too embarrassed to ask your doctor - I tackle it all.

Every episode, I'm chatting with incredible people who are changing the game – doctors who actually listen, researchers uncovering the truth, entrepreneurs building solutions we desperately need, and women just like us sharing their stories

Welcome to the LBH herd! I'm so glad you're here, and I can't wait to hear what topics you're dying to explore together. Seriously, let me know what you want to hear about because this is really for all of us.

📣 NEW EPISODE ALERT!

Guest Spotlight - Kaitlin Christine, Founder & CEO of Gabbi

In this episode, I speak with Kaitlin Christine about her personal journey through breast cancer and how it inspired her to create Gabbi, a platform aimed at empowering women to understand their breast cancer risks. We discuss the importance of early detection, the implications of breast density, and the need for personalized healthcare. Kaitlin shares success stories of women who have benefited from Gabbi's services and emphasizes the critical role of education and awareness in women's health. The conversation also addresses the challenges women face in navigating the healthcare system and the importance of genetic testing.

Breast Cancer Risk…It’s Complicated

From family history to genetics to age and breast density, there are a lot of different factors that contribute to your risk of breast cancer.

Gabbi, a platform aimed at empowering women to understand their breast cancer risks, has got you covered. Kaitlin Christine is on a mission to get women informed and eradicate late-stage breast cancer.

🗣️ Memorable Quote

“The most common standard of care risk model for breast cancer is the Tyrer-Cuzick. And this was developed decades ago. Two of its major pitfalls are that it can really only accurately predict risk for women over 35 who are Caucasian.

It only takes into account maternal family history. But your DNA is 50 % from mom and 50 % from dad, so if we're not taking in the paternal side of the family, we're missing half the equation.”

Taboo of the Week: Did you know the word hysterectomy is sexist? It comes from the term Hysteria, which was a psychiatric condition first formally defined in the 5th century BCE and only applied to women (I’m shocked! Shocked to find medical gaslighting going on in here). Hysterectomy is a procedure for removing the uterus but it really should be called a uterectomy. Check out the full article here.
